The Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G) has sought an increase of Rs4.99 per unit in power tariff for February under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
According to a petition submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday, the CPPA-G said that the actual fuel cost came in at Rs8.935 per unit against the reference charges of Rs4.251 per unit.
A total of 8,087.85 GWh of electricity worth Rs72.2 billion was generated during the month while 7,774.13 GWh was supplied to the power distribution companies.
Out of the total generation, 18.22% electricity was generated from hydel sources while 31.7% energy was produced from coal. Separately, 6.51% electricity was produced through furnace oil, 11.36% from local gas, 15.16% from re-gasified liquefied natural gas, 12.53% from nuclear sources and 2.04% from wind.
The regulator will hold a public hearing on Thursday. The impact of the proposed tariff increase will be passed on to all categories of consumers, except for lifeline consumers.
