Singer Momina Mustehsan recently took to her Instagram to pen a detailed note in honour of Pakistan Day, celebrated annually on March 23. The Beparwah singer shared screenshots of an infographic from Foreign Policy, which showed how no prime minister in the nation’s history has ever completed a full term. Momina’s post comes during a time of rising political turmoil in the country, with PM Imran Khan’s government facing possible dissolution via a no-confidence motion.
Quoting Jinnah, Momina started off her note with an excerpt from one of his most iconic speeches on “unity, faith and discipline”. She wrote, “In the words of Jinnah… We must sink individualism and petty jealousies and make up our minds to serve the people with honesty and faithfulness.”
Referencing the infographic, Momina continued, “It breaks my heart to see no unity, no discipline, and no faith. No confidence in any prime minister in our entire history. Not once in our 75 years of independence have we let any prime minister serve their full term. We are a democracy and we have elected each party, and yet we have never found confidence in any of them.”
The singer went on to implore the warring political parties to focus on working together as opposed to “hurling abuses” at each other. Referring to the ruling party and the opposition, Momina shared, “Why can’t both find a way to respect each other, respect elected terms and respectfully work together to find solutions and build the nation? The goal of every party is a better Pakistan after all.”

Explaining how she wishes for a day when the conversations in Parliament are about “solving the problems of the people”, Momina continued, “I do not support any party or any person, I support Pakistan. I think we all can do a better job at keeping Pakistan before our own personal differences.”
Urging everyone involved to prioritise the nation over petty politics, the singer concluded, “We need to change our attitudes - on all sides. Our approach should only be of sincerity towards the betterment, safety and progress of our nation - collectively at all times by all people and all parties, respecting the Constitution we put in place 66 years ago on this day.”
On the political front, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday claimed that he still had a “trump card” or two up his sleeve that he would play a day before the opposition’s no-confidence motion. This, he boasted, will prove to be the game-changer.
“I am predicting that we will win the match of the no-confidence motion,” he told reporters of the Supreme Court, a couple of days before deliberations are slated to begin on the no-trust move against him in a session of the lower house of parliament.
