KARACHI:

It is unfortunate that the administrators of various madrassas are being harassed in the name of verification of data, said Wifaqul Madaris, a representative body of seminaries on Monday.

The body of seminaries said that the government was deviating from agreements reached between the Wifaqul Madaris or the federation of madrasas and the government.

According to the agreement, data from madrassas can be obtained only by the Ministry of Education according to the agreed schedule and procedure. Officials of other institutions should approach the Ministry of Education for data.

Top officials should take immediate notice of harassment of madrassa officials by officials of various government agencies.

These views were expressed in a joint statement by Maulana Hafiz Fazlur Rehim, Maulana Anwar-ul-Haq Haqqani, and Maulana Muhammad Hanif Jalandhari, leaders of the Wifaqul Madarisul Arabia of Pakistan.

He said that reports and complaints were being received from different parts of the country that officials of various government agencies were harassing the administrators, teachers and students of madrassas in the name of soliciting data.
