Congratulations are in order for singer Asim Azhar and model Merub Ali, who announced their engagement on Sunday evening. The couple took to social media to upload twin posts to share the life update with fans. In an adorable photo, the duo can be seen clad in white, with Asim writing in the caption, “Shukar Alhamdulillah. With the grace of Allah Almighty and our parent’s duas, we announce our Imam Zamin - engagement. May Allah SWT and Ahlebait (as) keep us protected and this happy forever, Aameen. Keep us in your prayers."
Asim and Merub, who have known each other for a longtime due to being family friends, had been fueling the rumour mill for quite some time now with regards to their relationship status. Asim also took to Twitter to clarify that he had never labelled Merub as his “sister”, as was allegedly being claimed by some based on a doctored screenshot.
He tweeted, “To all reposting a screenshot of a ‘news channel’ that said I had labelled Merub as my sister [because] of a fake chat a fan had made, I clarified it a year ago.” The singer continued, “Reminder, since this is a beautiful moment of my life that I want to cherish. Doosre ki khushi mai khush hona chahiye [You should be happy for others].”

He went on to add in a separate tweet, “Clarification was important because the narrative was disgusting. Anyways, baaki sab ko mithaai jald hi ghar pohanch jayegi [the mithai will reach everyone else’s homes soon]. I love you guys. Thank you for the love and duas.”

Merub also took to her Instagram story to request people to steer clear of spreading rumours for the sake of gossip. She wrote, “Please refrain from spreading false info, fake dates and especially refrain from bringing other humans down to celebrate us,” in a possible nod to fans bullying actor Hania Amir, who Asim previously dated.
Congratulatory messages poured in soon after the couple announced the engagement, with several industry members taking to the comments section of the posts. Celebrities such as Zara Noor Abbas, Sajay Aly, Aima Baig, Shadab Khan, Aiman Khan and Bilal Maqsood sent love and well wishes to the couple.
