Rainwater harvesting project inaugurated
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) on Sunday inaugurated a rainwater harvesting project.
The stored rainwater will be used for irrigation and other purposes.
Provincial Minister for Literacy Raja Rashid Hafeez and PHA Chairman Asif Mehmood inaugurated the rain harvesting project at Rawal Road Park.
After inaugurating the project at Rawal Park, the PHA chairman said that the authority has decided to start rain harvesting projects in other parks as well.
Under the rain harvesting project, underground water tanks have been constructed which have the capacity to store 300,000 gallons of water.
The PHA chairman said that in the first phase water tanks were being constructed in three parks for storing rainwater.
He said that rainwater will be used for irrigation of plants at different places in the Rawalpindi city which will reduce the use of clean drinking water. The water will also be used for fire-fighting.
Along with these water tanks, water filling stations were also being constructed.
The PHA chairman further said that in the second phase similar projects would be started in all major parks of the Rawalpindi city which would help overcome water issues.
