LAKKI MARWAT:

A constable of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) was gunned down by unidentified miscreants in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Saturday.

A police official told The Express Tribune that unidentified bike riders opened fire at CTD Constable Muhammad Bilal in the jurisdiction of Norang police station, killing him on the spot.

“The attackers managed to escape after committing the crime,” he said.

“Muhammad Bilal was involved in geo tagging and he was deployed at CTD currently,” he said, adding that the deceased was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A large contingent of police reached the site of the attack and carried out a door to door search operation but there was no sign of the attackers.

In a separate incident in Miranshah, North Waziristan tribal district police foiled an attack at a police post.

“Miscreants attacked a police post in Kani Bagh in the jurisdiction of Miranshah police station. After receiving the information about the attack a police contingent was moved to the post as reinforcement after which the attackers fled,” said a police official, adding that an FIR has been registered against the unidentified attackers and police started investigation in the case.

Attacks at police have intensified since the fall of Kabul to Taliban last year in August. Last week a police constable was shot dead in Nowshera by unidentified attackers.

In Lakki Marwat district in the recent months several police vehicles were ambushed in which many lives were lost.
