Incentives sought for SMEs

Bank advances to small businesses rose to Rs524 billion

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are dubbed as an engine of economic growth all over the world and advancing soft loans to this vital sector always contributes significantly to the improvement of economy of a country, said Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Executive Officer Mian Kashif Ashfaq.

Speaking to a delegation of women entrepreneurs on Thursday, he said that incentives would also strengthen the industrial base. The PFC chief said that bank advances to small businesses rose to Rs524 billion during the second quarter of current fiscal year, which was a good omen and would have a salutary impact on the SMEs across the country. According to him, they will also generate ample job opportunities to help alleviate the sufferings of the downtrodden segment of society.
