Cops ‘manhandle’ two brothers

Police arrest suspects and register cases against 10 other people

Personnel of the Elite Force manhandled two people, who happened to be brothers of a staff officer to the City Police Officer (CPO), on Sargodha Road, said a police report.

The suspects were arrested after the incident, and cases were also registered against 10 other people.

According to the police report, complainant Mirza Muhammad Asim, a lawyer and a brother of Sub-Inspector Haji Omar, personal staff officer to the City Police Officer, Ghulam Mubashir Mekan, told the police that his brother, Dr. Muhammad Usman, departed the Madina Teaching Hospital with his family in his car.

Hawaldar Zeeshan, stationed at the Elite Force, brought his car in front of his brother’s and then intercepted his brother’s car, pulled his brother Dr. Usman out of the vehicle at gunpoint and manhandled him.

The complainant said that the accused broke his brother’s nose bone and damaged his car. 

He also called 10 people, including his fellow police constables Mohsin, Zohaib, Talha, Tayyab etc., “who too targeted my brother”.

“During this we were informed by my family, and when I and others arrived on the scene, the accused grabbed me and broke my nose bone by hitting it with sticks and a pistol butt.

“They also fired at the car, smashing its windshield. They snatched Rs17,000 and some necessary documents from my purse.

“Meanwhile, passersby Shehzad and Shamshad Hussain, along with others, saved our lives. “Accused Zeeshan kept introducing himself as ASI Khalil.”

Millat Town Police reached the spot, arrested Hawaldar Zeeshan, Constable of Elite Force Mohsin and a civilian Talha and registered a case against 10 accused under Sections 324-440-419-148-149.

The CPO took notice of the matter and suspended both the employees of the Elite Force.

In August last year three people, including two police officials, were booked for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a man in Dijkot.

The suspects allegedly took the victim to a police station at the behest of his opponents and demanded Rs1.5 million from him.

According to the police, Muhammad Nadeem Minhas had filed a case in this regard, saying, “When I went out after Isha prayers in Kachehri Bazaar, two policemen conspired with Amjad Gujjar and kidnapped me at gunpoint, tortured me and demanded Rs1.5 million in extortion.”

The victim also alleged that he had been taken to the police station and locked up.

Reportedly, the suspects recorded a video of the victim to get a statement in accordance with their desire and forced him to sign a blank paper with his thumb impression.

They also took Rs42,000 out of his pocket, withdrew another Rs40,000 through his ATM cards and forced him to sign blank cheques, the complainant had alleged.

Kotwali police registered a case under different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including Sections 365 and 384.
