Businessmen laud govt for reducing petrol, power cost

Say they will mitigate miseries of common man

ISLAMABAD:

The reduction of Rs10 per litre in prices of petroleum products and Rs5 per unit in electricity tariff will relieve the public during the ongoing tough times, said Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Shakeel Munir.

In a statement on Monday, he lauded the relief measures extended to the public and the industry by Prime Minister Imran Khan till the next federal budget.

Munir highlighted that the general public was facing difficulties and the relief measures were positive steps which would mitigate the miseries of the common man and revive the confidence of the business community.

The ICCI president also appreciated Khan for announcing tax exemption for IT companies and freelancers as well as for waiving capital gains tax on IT startups.

“These measures will provide new energy to the IT sector and boost IT exports of the country,” he added.

He further said that skills-based internships for graduates would help produce skilled manpower for industry besides improving productivity.

The ICCI president commended the government for facilitating investors of IT industry through ‘no questions asked’ policy and termed it bold move. He hoped that it would help attract more investment in the country and spur industrialisation.

He noted that the prime minister also hinted at announcing a separate package for industry and emphasised that the package would offer all industries the facilities that are currently being provided to the construction sector.

“It will steer industrial revolution in the country and place Pakistan on the path of sustainable economic growth,” he added.
