The Sindh government appointed on Tuesday Prof Dr Nasira Khatoon as University of Karachi (KU) Acting Vice Chancellor following removal of Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi from the post as per the Sindh High Court (SHC)'s order.
A notification released by the Sindh Universities and Boards Department, stated that Nasira Khatoon, Acting Senior Professor and Dean of Science has been appointed to the role of acting vice chancellor of the varsity.
Secretary universities and boards, Mureed Rahimo, maintained that the appointment of Nasira Khatoon would serve as an interim arrangement until further orders.

On February 25, the SHC had ordered the removal of Acting Vice Chancellor of Karachi University and annulment of all decisions taken by Khalid Iraqi after January 26, 2022.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar heard the contempt of court petition against not removing Khalid Iraqi from the office.
Justice Gorar remarked that if it was not implemented within a week, contempt of court proceedings will be initiated. The court also annulled all decisions made by Iraqi after January 26, 2022.
