Shae Gill’s Coke Studio journey began from her best friend’s room: 'Pasoori' hitmaker tells all
Singer Shae Gill became a social media sensation after the release of her groovy Coke Studio song Pasoori in collaboration with Ali Sethi. Given the growing curiosity about her amongst new and old fans, the 23-year-old artist sat with Spotify Pakistan to answer questions about herself ranging from her humble beginnings to future artist collaborations on her wish list.
Calling Shae their “favourite fairytale,” the music streaming platform shared a clip of a Q&A session and wrote, “From her BFF’s room to the Coke Studio stage, Shae Gill is our favourite fairytale.”
People who have followed Shae’s journey from before her Coke Studio offering would remember how she gained fame following her rendition of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poetry, Aaj Bazaar Mai, that she recorded for a local publication, Womanistan.
Based in Lahore, Shae’s musical career began in the hostel where she used to live together with her best friend. “We just started recording videos then and that’s how Shae Gill started.” The singer shared that she is easily influenced by “people who live their life passionately.”
Pasoori is a fusion hit number with musical influences ranging from reggaeton to the soulful tunes of the rubab. When Shae was asked to describe the process of shooting the song, she simply said that it was “a whole lot of fun.”
On who she wishes to perform with next, the singer named rap duo Young Stunners and Indian composer A R Rahman. Fans flocked to the comments section rooting for Shae’s collaboration with the former artists and many even tagged the rappers, asking them to take on a project with Shae.
Going into 2022, Shae has many plans for her musical journey, with her top priorities being “writing” and “learning classical music.”
