Bollywood divas in black: Hits and misses at Farhan, Shibani’s post-wedding bash

From Kareena Kapoor to Deepika Padukone, here is a low-down of some key black outfits of the night

Entertainment Desk February 25, 2022

While Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar’s wedding ceremony was an intimate and low-key affair, the post-wedding bash hosted by Ritesh Sidhwani was as glamorous as it can get.

While the couple of the hour chose to don blues and greys, with Shibani opting for a broad-shouldered blue metallic figure-hugging number and Farhan going the casual cool route in a grey T-shirt, white pants and matching overshirt combo, most of the Bollywood bigwigs at the star-studded party opted for black.

From Kareena Kapoor to Deepika Padukone, Indian film stars put their best foot forward in a variety of black outfits, including bodycon dresses and monochrome jumpsuits. Here is a lowdown of what some of the biggest Bollywood divas opted for at the glamorous celebration, as well as a look at the biggest hits and some obvious misses of the night to help you out on your next black dress escapade.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

Leave it to Bebo to understand the assignment! The actor pulled up to Farhan and Shibani’s bash dressed in an understated yet oh-so-chic little black dress (LBD). Kareena paired the number with cheetah-print heels, elevating the overall look. The Jab We Met star opted for a sequinned black clutch to add a bit of sparkle and baring one shoulder, the actor kept her hair down and gathered to one side.

Ananya Pandey

The new diva on the block, Ananya’s take on the LBD was more girl-next-door rather than glamour queen. The Gehraiyaan actor opted for a sleeveless number with coat-style buttons, pairing the super short dress with a fitted black mini skirt. Ananya kept her hair slicked out of the way in a neat bun, donning black sheer socks and matching heels, as well as a mini handbag. Her red pout and minimal eye makeup brought the entire look together to perfection.

Deepika Padukone

There isn’t much to say about this look that hasn’t already been said before, simply because Deepika knows exactly how to rock a fitted dress, as she has proved time and again. The Bajirao Mastani actor opted for a figure-hugging number with tie-up detailing on the sides. Deepika paired the dress with matching high-heels with crystal embellishments, adding some extra pizazz to the outfit. In her signature sleek bun and dangly earrings, the actor ticked all of our boxes with this look.

Karisma Kapoor

Adding some much-needed sparkle to the event, Karisma stunned in a black sequinned number with a green pattern. The actor kept things balanced by ditching any other flashy accessories, allowing the LBD to do all the talking. She kept her hair out of the way in a sleek ponytail, opting for a pink lip and kohl-rimmed eyes. A definite winner!

Gauri Khan

Gauri Khan played it safe in a black jumpsuit with an asymmetric neckline. While the monochrome outfit looks great on her, the yellow clutch feels a bit jarring and disconnected from the rest of the look. The fact that the accessory looked like folded up paper didn’t help her cause much either. However, we love the addition of the delicate diamond jewellery on her wrist, spicing up an otherwise basic outfit.

Malaika Arora

Malaika knows how to work absolutely any piece of clothing, but the OTT embellished sheer dress isn’t doing her any favours. The addition of the holographic silver clutch is adding to the already extremely busy outfit, with a plain black clutch being a much better option. The minimal makeup is a great choice, and so is the hair, but the outfit just didn’t make it to the top of our list.

Amrita Arora

Amrita’s silk ballgown is far too princess-y for the glamorous vibe demanded by the event. The fact that the bodice of the dress looks like a silk pillowcase with ruffled edges isn’t helping either. In addition to that, Amrita’s black boots underneath the long dress are not all that pleasing to the eye, since there’s nothing breaking up the hem of the dress and the shoes. A pair of basic high heels would have been so much better.
