Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday paid rich tribute to the armed forces over their achievements on the completion of five years of the Operation Raddul Fasaad against terrorism in the country.
The chief minister said in a statement that peace had been maintained in the country because armed forces personnel had nurtured it by sacrificing their precious lives.
The armed forces had broken the back of terrorists and the nation would not forget the sacrifices of the martyrs who were acclaimed heroes of the nation, he said.
"The martyrs have laid down their lives to thwart the nefarious designs of the terrorists," the chief minister added.
Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar also paid homage to the great sacrifice of Captain Haider Abbas who embraced martyrdom in a terrorist attack in the Kohlu area of Balochistan.
He said the brave son of the nation had sacrificed his life for peace and the nation saluted him.
The officer attained the high rank of martyrdom and sacrificed his life for the sake of duty, he said.
"The nation is proud of brave sons like Captain Haider Abbas Shaheed and it is fully united against terrorists," he concluded.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister returned to Lahore after his visit to Dubai.
During his visit, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed for the construction of the Mubarak Centre in the provincial capital.
Chief Minister Buzdar also visited the national and international pavilions in the Dubai Expo 2022.
Under the MoU, Dubai-based group Taavun will construct the tallest building of Lahore. Punjab government will provide assistance with regard to the construction of Mubarak Centre.
The planned building near Gaddafi Stadium will also provide accommodation to national and international players.
An official statement termed the chief minister's visit important with respect to international investment in Punjab.
Meanwhile. Chief Minister Buzdar felicitated the government and people of Saudi Arabia on the country's founding day.
He said the national day of Saudi Arabia is a shining chapter of Islamic history and heritage. The strong ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are based on centuries-old historical, religious and cultural ties, he noted.
"Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have a deep and long-standing relationship that will last forever," he said.
Cooperation and harmony exist between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in all areas of mutual interest. Saudi Arabia has always helped Pakistan in every possible way in every test. The friendship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is a glowing example for the world, he said, adding that Pakistanis considered Saudi Arabia as their second home.
The people of both the countries are interlinked in strong bonds of brotherhood, the CM added.
In another development, the chief minister handed over notification of appointment as his Coordinator for Livestock and Dairy Development to former president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) youth wing Syed Ali Abbas Shah Bukhari who called on him.
Bukhari thanked the chief minister and assured him of making all-out efforts for the betterment of the livestock and dairy sector.
CM Buzdar expressed hope that he would play an active role in improvement of the livestock and dairy development department.
