The committees constituted to look after different affairs of the Supreme Court have been made public for the first time on the directives of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
The chief justice has also assigned important responsibilities to different judges of the apex court, including Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who is the senior-most judge of the top court.
According to the details, Chief Justice Bandial will be the chairman of the building committee whereas Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah will be its members. The body will look after the affairs related to the apex court’s building, judges’ guest house, lodges, and their assets.
The chief justice has also formed a case management committee with Justice Mansoor Ali Shah in the chair. Other members of the body are Justice Munib Akhtar and the additional registrar (judicial).
Meanwhile, approval of the chief justice will be required for medical bills of judges exceeding Rs0.1 million.
Regarding the responsibilities, Justice Isa will supervise the Balochistan anti-terrorism courts. He will also head the Advocate on Record Enrollment Committee. Justice Maqbool Baqar, Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Qazi Amin will be the members of the panel.
Justice Isa will also head the research affairs and Law Clerk Committee of the top court. The Research Centre Affairs Committee will also include Justice Akhtar and Justice Mansoor.
Meanwhile, Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel will be a part of the Law Clerk Programme Committee. The two-member committee will recommend the appointment of law clerks.
According to notifications, Justice Sardar Tariq will be the monitoring judge for Islamabad anti-terrorism courts, Justice Ahsan, Punjab; Justice Miankhel, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Justice Sajjad will be the monitoring judge for Sindh anti-terrorism courts.
The insaf committee for speedy justice will comprise Justice Tariq and Justice Mansoor. Justice Ahsan will be in charge of affairs related to information technology, judicial academy, medical and security.
Despite the assignment of responsibilities to Justice Isa, Justice Ahsan still has the highest number of representatives in the committees.
All the committees were constituted on February 15. The formation of these bodies has been made public for the first time on the directives of the chief justice to negate the impression that the authority rests with one judge.
