Singer and Strings frontman Bilal Maqsood recently attended Aaj Shaam Se Pehlay, a tribute to the King of Pop, Alamgir, at Napa and shared videos from the event on his Instagram.

The videos shared by Napa's Insta handle also see him honouring the legend in his presence. "Pop music in Pakistan started with Alamgir sahab," Maqsood said in his speech dedicated to the singer. "He inspired me at a very young age. There used to be a Naghma slot on PTV back in the day and I always hoped an Alamgir performance comes on because he always brought something new to the table. With his performances, Alamgir became the first Pakistani pop icon who started this pop culture. I even remember my elder female cousins having posters of him on their walls. And his poses, the way he presented himself, everything contributed to that culture."

Maqsood added that all the pop bands that followed, be it Vital Signs, Junoon or Strings, they all used the same formula as Alamgir's. "Everything started with you," he looked at Alamgir saying. The Mera Bichra Yaar crooner then clarified that while he did not want to "ruin" any Alamgir song, he was told that he needs to sing for him in his tribute. So, started playing the tune for Albela Rahi and sang the hit number with all the love he had accumulated for the legend over decades.

Alamgir even joined Maqsood on stage and sharing a moment from the same event, Maqsood shared on his Instagram: "Alamgir saying that he’s 'passing the baton' to me defines my existence. He’s the one who sowed the seed of pop music in Pakistan. It puts immense pressure on me but simultaneously makes my future journey equally exciting and challenging. Thank you Alamgir sahab. Thank you for all the music you’ve given us. Thank you for Shaam Se Pehlay, Khayaal Rakhna, Dekh Tera Kia, Albela Rahi, Soona Soona Jeevan, Dekha Na Tha, Mein Ne Tumhari Gagar Se. You will forever remain my idol."
