SHER GARH:

A woman was killed by her brother in the name of honour along with her alleged suitor in Sher Garh, Mardan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Friday.

Police told The Express Tribune that the accused Inam Bacha opened firing at his sister Nabeela and her suitor Gul Taj killing both of them.

The brother of the deceased Gul Taj told police that Nabeela was a widow of their cousin. She was living with her in-laws where she had a tussle with them and came to her parents as a result.

“My brother Gul Taj visited Nabeela to convince her to go back to her home and children but her brother mistook their chatting for an affair and killed both of them,” he stated in the FIR.

Honour killings are widespread across K-P and each year dozens of women are killed by family members.

Last year a 14-year-old boy gunned down his own mother in the name of honour outside a court in Swabi district of K-P.

Registering an FIR in the case, Head Constable Hazrat Bilal told the police that Nasehat Bibi, wife of Zubir, resident of Naranji village, had been brought to court for the hearing of her case where she was granted bail by the court of Amir Ali, Judicial Magistrate Swabi. After the bail, she was sitting in the veranda with a lady constable waiting for the documents when the incident happened, he stated.

He said that during this time a young man approached her and then opened fire, killing her on the spot.

The young boy, who is the son of the deceased, escaped but police chased him and arrested him along with a TT pistol red-handed.

Police said the accused was a juvenile of just 14 years and his father encouraged him to kill his mother in the name of honour.
