World’s largest gold plated Holy Quran in the making
The world’s largest gold-plated copy of the Holy Quran is being prepared, said artist and calligrapher Shahid Rassam.
Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club alongside author Anwar Maqsood on the world’s largest gold-plated copy of the Holy Quran, calligrapher Shahid Rassam said that the pages of this copy are two meters long and 2.6 meters wide.
The words have been engraved on aluminium and plated with gold. It took two years to complete two pages. The project is worth about $35 million. The 550-page version will take another two and a half years to complete.
Shahid Rassam appealed to the government of Pakistan, Sindh government and foundations for help and said that their support would make this task easier. Anwar Maqsood said that the government should help in completing this task. Space is required to set up a museum for display. A documentary on Holy Quran was also presented in the KPC. Canvas has been used instead of paper in the preparation of the Holy Quran.
