KARACHI:

A young woman was allegedly raped by suspects during a house robbery in Karachi’s Surjani Town. The incident took place Sunday night. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.

Armed suspects entered a house in Sector 7A area of Surjani Town Police Station and looted the family members at gunpoint. During the incident, the suspects also allegedly raped a girl in the house.

Police said that the family has informed the police that the incident took place around 11pm on Sunday. The number of armed suspects involved in the incident was six. Three to four of the suspects entered the house while the two kept guard outside.

They said that when a member of the family went out to buy milk, the door was left open and upon seeing the door open, the suspects entered the house. According to police, the armed robbers robbed away Rs24,000 in cash and jewellery from the house and allegedly subjected a young girl to rape.

The police officials said that the girl could not be medically examined Sunday night due to the non-availability of the lady MLO. However, the victim was medically examined on Monday and the lady MLO obtained DNA samples which will be sent to the laboratory and the facts will come out after issuance of the DNA report. West district SSP Sohai Aziz also reached the house of the affected family. She directed the SHO to conduct a speedy and transparent investigation into the incident and arrest the culprits.
