Spring tree plantation begins today

The spring tree plantation campaign will start from Tuesday (today) across the country, under which 20 million saplings will be planted in Rawalpindi alone.

The campaign will continue for two months, till April 15. All government institutions and schools will be given plants free-of-cost. Meanwhile, citizens will be given the plants at any cost ranging between Rs2 to Rs10 per plant. Under the One Plant campaign in educational institutions, one student will be bound to plant one plant. The Forest Department has set up 15 temporary nursery stalls for distribution of these plants.

Further, Pine trees will also be planted across all the four hilly tehsils of Rawalpindi, including Kallar Syedan, Kahuta, Kotli Satyan and Murree.

All government agencies and functionaries, including the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), the Deputy Commissioner (DC), and the officials from the education, health, environment and police department will also plant trees during the campaign.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ashfaq Bashir Bhatta said that the department has started delivering plants to army, police and other government agencies.

All types of fruit plants have been developed for this campaign.
