Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry expressed Pakistan’s desire to build a semiconductor manufacturing zone in collaboration with China to make the country self-sufficient in modern gadgets and open new avenues of development.
In an interview with China Economic Net, the minister stated that as a core element of technology, manufacturing semiconductors would help bring value addition to local manufacturing sectors.
Fawad also said that Prime Minister Imran Khan, during his recent visit to China, discussed shifting the semiconductors industry to Pakistan, as the technology is vital not only for Pakistan but also for China.

He further expressed his pleasure at Chinese investors who are keen to join hands with Pakistan and urged Chinese tech companies to “come to Pakistan and make it a hub of semiconductors manufacturing” by converting the technology zone into a semiconductor zone.
The information minister reiterated that both Pakistan and China can cooperate immensely in the area of science and technology.
He further pointed out that mobile phones are now assembled in Pakistan but they are inclined to take a step further and begin manufacturing mobile phones in the country.
