Sindh science fest ends

Panellists emphasised the Sindh government to open science labs in all province schools

A first-ever two-day Sindh Science Festival organised by Thar Education Alliance (TEA) with support of Sindh Education and Literacy Department and other organisations at NED concluded on Friday.

The panellists during the festival stressed upon the Sindh government to extend their full support to the organisations working on promoting STEM education in all government and private schools in the province.

The panellists emphasised the Sindh government to open science labs in all province schools. As the chief guest, Tanzila Qambrani, the Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for the Ministry of Information Technology, stressed on the importance of science in education.

In his speech, Tufail Jokhio, the pro-vice-chancellor of NED University, said that it was a unique event where students from all districts were given equal opportunities. Partab Shivani, the CEO of TEA, said aim of the event was to provide space to students for displaying their science projects. Chamman Kumar, from DCT Hilal School Mithi broke 'the world record' by telling the names of all bones of the human skeleton just within 25 seconds.

Khanzadi Kapri, an activist, during the session on girls and science, said equipping the female students with STEM education was must. Political Activist Sushil Kumar Malani said that seeing the growing cadre with a scientific approach is applaudable.

Government must ensure access to science labs in schools and colleges to learn new ways and techniques. Sangita Kumari, Sadia Salluddin, Dr Hina Kazmi, Lubna Khalid, and others spoke.

Students set up more than 40 stalls in the Sindh Science Festival. They displayed scientific models to address the issues such as water and environmental pollution, power generation from alternative sources, traffic and problems of urban development, and the handling of humanitarian.
