NADRA refuses to give ‘identity’ to student from broken family

SHC issues notices to home ministry, NADRA for non-issuance of CNIC

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the Interior Ministry and National Data Registration Authority (NADRA) on the request of a student Ahsan who says that the authority has refused to issue him a computerised national identity card.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Justice Ahmad Ali Sheikh heard the plea of 24-year-old Muhammad Ahsan regarding the non-issuance of CNIC. Advocate Usman Farooq stated that his client's mother left him 20 years ago, and his father has passed away.

After completing Intermediate he has been trying to get admission to the university for four years but he has been denied admission for not having CNIC.

He showed his father's death certificate and other documents including the CNICs of father and grand father to NADRA but to no avail. The court issued notices to the Federal Ministry of Interior and Director General NADRA on the request of student Ahsan.

SHC nullifies Special ATC sentences

The Sindh High Court (SHC) nullified the sentences passed by the Special AntiTerrorism Court on the appeal of the accused in the case of attack on Rangers post at Korangi Crossing and ordered to release the accused.

A two-member bench of the High Court has ruled on the appeals of the accused against the conviction in the case of attack on Rangers post at Korangi Crossing. The court, while accepting the appeals, quashed the sentences given by the lower court to the four accused.

The court ordered the accused to be acquitted in the case. The accused include Salman alias SP, Obaidullah alias Pagla, Salman alias Umayya and Kamran. The special anti-terrorism court had sentenced the accused in April 2019.

The court had sentenced two accused Salman alias SP and Obaidullah alias Pagla to a total of 29 years imprisonment. The accused Salman alias Umayya and Kamran were sentenced to a total of 15 years imprisonment.

A case was registered against the accused at Zaman Town Police Station in 2016 on the complaint of Rangers. According to the prosecution, the accused had attacked with a cracker bomb at a Rangers check post at Korangi Crossing in March 2016. Three Rangers and a passerby were injured in the cracker bomb attack.
