Following the successful completion of an army operation against a band of militants in the region, Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited the Kurram Agency on Thursday, according to a military press release.
Operation Koh-e-Sufaid had been launched to clear the area of militants whose fighting had increased the incidence of sectarian killings, kidnapping, and extortion in the agency, according to the military.
The militants had blocked the Tal-Parachinar highway, Kurram’s only connection to the outside world. It is unclear if the highway is operational at this stage.
With the military’s success, it is expected that the Murree Accord – a peace agreement to end four years of conflict between Kurram’s Sunnis and Shias – will be implemented. Gen Kayani also interacted with the troops at Mandan and Manato.

what a shameful operation it was i think it was joke of the year to conduct operation and then clean the area from militants. we want to know about the everyday abductions kidnappings and killings and what about the roads closed since 4 years and the Pak Army could not through pass the road.
Thank goodness the Pakistani military is crushing these anti state criminals working for the enemies of state. We need to block the border with Afghanistan with a fence so these the Indian agents and their Afghan lackeys can't get into our nation to attack innocent civilians.
I sincerely wish it were as simple as this. Kurram is by no means clear of terrorists. Why? Because these are insurgents very much like the ones in Swat. They will regroup as soon as the Army leaves on cuts down on men deployed. The problem is a deep Shia-Deobandi divide which has escalated since the US invasion of Afghanistan. The Shias control a key passage into Afghanistan which the other faction has unsuccessfully tried to wrest away. And before I forget NWA is an altogether different ball game. Also we do not have the 'will' to attack Haqqani's network since it provides' strategic depth' inside Afghanistan.
Cheers....Nice job Pak Army. One thing to mention, it is a success in point time. We need a constant and chronic hard work against militants. It was an embolus from a remote area cancer. We need to cure the actual cancer. All these emboli will disappear by themselves. Yet this victory is of great value to common people of Kurram agency.
The city of Parachinar is still under the siege of Taliban! What was the purpose of this military operation? Just to help Taliban relocating in the Kheevaas Valley (gorges) so that they could stay safe prom drone attacks! Pakistan army is not only protecting Taliban at the cost of law abiding residents of Parachinar, it's rather serving Taliban!
@Abu Dajana: Your comments are eye opener for those who oppose operation in North Waziristan, " what a true interpretation of Islam, -- killing your own fellow Muslims---- from other sects, as being done by Kurram militants ------- is what Iqbal meant by " LAHOO GARAM RAKHANY KA BAHANA". It is a real Shame; Islam does not preach extremist ideology.
@Mohsin: :Can you please suggest any solutions for Quetta and why is Balochistan being neglected". Army isn't neglecting Quetta. In fact army operation and the missing person issue in Balochistan is making it difficult to conduct peace talks and bring tranquility to the region.
@Musharraf: " Show the nation why your the only capable institution"
The capable institution that started the 1965 war that it could not win despite first mover advantage. The capable institution that killed and raped 100s of thousands of your fellow East Pakistanis and even lost a war that led to partition of the country.
The capable institution that created the infrastructure for jehad to give soldiers for rent to the US and in turn led to the drug and weaopns mafia that are creating mayhem in Pakistan
The capable institution that started Kargill and had to unilaterally declare ceasefire after running to US.
The capable institution that uses up 50% of the country's tax resources and is still not able to provide security to its people.
YEs the civilians are corrupt but their corruption is publicized by media who is silent about how many army seniors have become multimillionaire due to arm deals. Yes the civilians have not shown great success but none of them have had the great failures like Bangladesh, Siachen, Kargill.
I hope that Pakistani people get a good capable and competent civilian government.
If they are called as true mujahideen then why they dnt go to Kashmir and fight against Indian army or why they dnt go to Palestine and fight againt israil?? Why jihad is required on the place where pepole already living in peace?? And do you really think that they will come back to disturb the peace of that region?? They are basically not the mujahidin but simply the miscreants and terrorists who are hired employees basically to destablize the prosperity of the region. Bravo!!! Pakistan Army...Proud of Pakistan Army...
I applaud for Pak Army and I'd request Pak Army to come to Karachi clear out the area from miscreants and terrorists.
Bravo!!! Soon mujahideen will be in Kurram again. Thanx army for providing our mujahideen with a great opportunity of exercise.
Lahoo garm rakhney ka hey ik bahana
Good Job Army!! No Need to Hurry in launching An Operation in North Waziristan. But that doesn't mean 'NO OPERATION at all'.
SALUTE to martyrs. Death to Taliban (TTP & Afghani both) & extremists.
@Khan: khan jee Pashtun belt can never be closed are you living in dreams and stop worrying about NWA let the American go then we can sort them out worry about Karachi MQM and other gangs are bigger threat then NWA people how can you asked them to come under proper administration when you cant control you biggest city show people of fata that under proper governance they will have batter life job opportunity, and justice by creating examples start from karachi
next mission ; karachi
they have concluded operation in kurram agency but they have done there. they have just displaced the families from the place and bombarded the moutains and trees and rocks over there. the terrorists are still in safe heavens.thall parachinar road is still closed for the local people as it was closed during the last 4 years. they havent made the road safe and secure. the haqqani network is still operating there. what they have achieved or just they simply conclude their operation??? we need the opening of the thall parachinar road which is the backbone for the economic activiies.....
great now do an operation in karachi please!.. Show the nation why your the only capable institution..
We are proud of you for this.. Building a ray of hope in the darkness. Can you please suggest any solutions for Quetta and why is Balochistan being neglected. any result of the last corp commander meeting situation of karachi is the same.
Please send one division to Karachi as well and kill all the mercenaries belonging to all political parties. Abhor all politicians who are playing dirty games in karachi and the public is suffering.
I hope it permanently opens up the raod to Parachinar
Plenty of terrorists still left in Kurram.
Ok,this is the official ISPR version on which you are cheering, the militants have moved out of this area, when the operation started, similarly like the did in SWAT and bajur and malakand, then they infiltrate from neighboring areas and then IEDs,RPGs and .......... Remember Bush also declared victory in Afghanistan few years back and Iraq.. He said mission over team....
@ Cautious - glad someone isn't just buying everything ISPR throws out. How many terrorists were killed? What is being done to ensure they do not come back?
How about some interviews with the locals showing how brutal these terrorists are so that the likes of Imran Khan and the Ghariat brigade who hate drone strikes can shut up after they see how awful life is for people in FATA who have no rights, no safety, and no future as long as they are dominated by the terrorists we think are "good terrorists" and our idiots like Zaid Hamid keep supporting.
@Khan: Our economy is not strong and literacy rate is too low. No comparison with Israel. Anyway, well done Pak Army. We are proud of you. Cant you throw out this bunch of ugly poiticians
Bravo Army; I hope Pak Army will soon got a courage to down a US Drone.
How about a news reporter asking some tough questions rather than showing up to a press conference to take notes. . How many resources were deployed? How many casualties did the military take? How many "bad guys" were captured? How many "bad guys" were killed? How many "bad guys" escaped and what is there to prevent those "bad guys" from returning?
All these militants moved to N. Waziristan on vacation & will be back in a month.
There`s no writ of the state in many parts of the region which are as good independent states by themselves. North Waziristan is one such example.
If Army is capable of securing these areas then why not get rid of our cancer which exists in NWA for the prosperous future of our coming generations? And seal that border permanently .. We don't need any so called 'friendly' govt in other countries. Israel is much smaller in terms of area they have and are living in a much more hostile neighborhood but just because they have strong economy and high literacy rate (makes them independent) they don't need any such policy as our establishment has.
Bravo Pakistan forces...................
Congragulations PAK ARMY!!
Proud of Pakistan Army...
