‘ECP ready to hold LG polls’

Poll supervisory body says project management unit established for EVM

ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is ready to hold local government elections in the country, a notification issued by the poll supervisory body said on Tuesday. The electoral body met under the chairmanship of chief election commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.

ECP members, secretary and senior officials attended the meeting while all four provincial election commissioners participated via video link. The commission while being briefed on different stages of electoral lists review expressed satisfaction over the efforts undertaken till now.

The provincial election commissioners informed the ECP about the delimitation of constituencies for the upcoming LG polls. The ECP was told that the final delimitation of constituencies for Islamabad will be notified on February 16.

It was further said that delimitation of constituencies in Punjab will be completed on March 22, Balochistan March 10 and in Sindh on March 24. The election supervisor noted that it was ready to hold LG polls in the country and directed the authorities concerned to ensure the completion of all jobs in this regard.

The participants of the meeting were briefed on the steps taken by the ECP after the legislation on electronic voting machine (EVM). It was further said that a project management unit had been set up at the ECP for the EVM and that a project director and project manager had been appointed.
