India's response to SRK's prayer has exposed the bigots within: Resham

Actor called out Indian extremists for misrepresenting SRK's gesture at Lata Mangeshkar's cremation ceremony.

After a BJP representative and Indian extremists dragged Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter following Lata Mangeshkar's cremation ceremony, Resham came out in support of the actor whose gesture of love was misrepresented.

A picture of SRK raising his hands in dua alongside manager Pooja Dadlani, who folded them in pranam, ahead of the late legend’s body, was hailed as a portrait of ‘secular India’. But alongside that, another clip did the rounds that saw Khan blowing on Lata’s mortal remains after reciting the dua. The gesture blew out of proportion on social media as many accused him of ‘spitting’ instead of blowing.

Following the hullaballoo, Resham took to Instagram and slammed the ‘bigots’ defaming the Raees star. Sharing his video on Instagram, the veteran wrote, “Mujhe samajh nahi aata ke taasub insaan ko itna andha kiun kardeta hai (I fail to understand how people become so blinded by prejudice)? Shayad iski waja ye hai ke jab apke dil kaalay hojate hain tou apko kisi ke achay amal or uski naik niyati pe bhi shuba honay lagta hai (Perhaps it’s because when your hearts become tainted, you start doubting everybody’s goodness).”

She went onto add, “Lata Ji ki samadhi per kuch parh ker phoonka hai SRK ne, jisse wahan ke taasub pasand logon ne thookna qarar diya hai (SRK only blew on Lata Ji’s mortal remains but Indian bigots have called it ‘spitting’). This clip has gone viral. Lekin jo bhi ba shaoor shakhs issay khuli aankhon se dekhega, ussay andaza hojaega ke SRK ne phoonka hai, thooka nahi (But any rational-minded person who watches the clip will be able to tell SRK is not spitting).”

Background

Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral prayers were held in Shivaji Park where she was later cremated on Sunday . To pay their respects, many including the likes of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, SRK, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, among several others gathered at the funeral.

After pictures and videos from the event surfaced online, BJP State In-Charge of Haryana, Arun Yadav, shared SRK's video and tweeted, “Has it spit?” He re-tweeted ‘political observer’ Rishi Bagree’s tweet, which read, “Seems like Lata Ji’s funeral has become SRK’s rehabilitation PR.” A user also commented on it saying, “Exactly my thoughts. Frankly it won’t be preposterous to think that it was done after much planning! He could have 'phoonk' in his mask too.” While writer and former-interim Director officer Central Bureau of Investigation, Mannem Nageswara Rao tweeted: “Did you, SRK, spit at the funeral of #LataMangeshkar Ji? Being a public figure, you are required to give public clarification immediately.”

But while those unaware of the common practice of blowing on someone after praying for them, continued to spew venom against Khan, his fans and public figures called out the vested elements had tried to give a ‘poisonous’ twist to the homage he paid.
