Pakistan witnesses increase in AIDS patients, Senate told

Ministry informs surge in patients greater than other Asian countries

ISLAMABAD:

The Ministry of National Health Services on Tuesday stated that the number of AIDS patients in Pakistan has immensely compared to other Asian countries.

The ministry made this startling revelation during a question-and-answer session held in the Senate earlier today, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chairman of Senate Mirza Afridi.

In its detailed response, the ministry mentioned that the main cause of the spread of this deadly disease was the practice of reusing syringes and transfusion of unchecked blood bags.

Expressing concern over the situation, Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said that in terms of the spread of AIDS, Pakistan is one of the 11 most dangerous countries in the world with 240,000 people infected with the virus.
