Daily jab records achieved in past three days: Umar

Covid-19 positivity rate stands at 8.69%, marking sixth straight day it remains below 10%

Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar on Sunday hailed the door-to-door Covid-19 immunisation drive saying that the country had registered highest daily vaccination records during the past three days in a row.

“Nationwide mobile vaccination campaign designed by NCOC [National Command and Operation Centre] and being implemented with help of provinces producing outstanding results,” he wrote in a tweet.
“Target is to reach all citizens to allow us to finally end all Covid-related restrictions.”

According to the NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the government’s anti-Covid strategy, 1,740,554 doses of coronavirus vaccine were administered across the country over the last 24 hours.

Pakistan reported at least 4,874 people tested positive for the disease during that period, down from 6,137 a day earlier.

The new cases take the total number to 1,459,773.

As per the official statistics, Covid-19 death toll reached 29,478 after 30 more patients died of the virus overnight while the positivity rate stood at 8.69% -- marking the sixth straight day it has remained below 10%.

Sindh reported at least 863 new coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, taking the tally in the province to 549,421.

According to Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, 14 more patients succumbed to the deadly virus as the death toll surged to 7,905.

He further said that 582 patients recovered overnight, lifting the total to 500,454.

In Punjab, 1,196 new cases were reported as well as 12 deaths.

At least 12 more patients succumbed to coronavirus in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in the province to 6,053.

According to health officials, 920 cases were reported in the province, lifting the total to 203,110. They further said that 990 patients recovered overnight, taking the total to 183,369.

At least 34 more people contracted coronavirus in Balochistan during the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 34,819.

According to health officials, no deaths were reported in the province. So far 368 patients have succumbed to the deadly virus in the province. As many as 34,014 patients have recovered from the disease in the province so far.

In the federal capital 465 new cases were reported as well as one death.

As many as 213 and 18 new cases were reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan respectively.

Earlier this month, the government had stepped up the ongoing anti-coronavirus vaccine campaign by taking it door-to-door amid surge in the coronavirus cases fuelled by the highly contagious Omicron variant.
The NCOC had announced a two-week door-to-door vaccination campaign titled ‘Every Pakistani Safe from Coronavirus’ to rid the nation of Covid-19.

The February 1-14 vaccine campaign would cover all the people above the age of 12 years.
Addressing a news conference in the federal capital, Umar, who also heads the NCOC, had said more than 55,000 vaccination teams would go door-to-door to vaccinate the unvaccinated individuals across the country.
