Dengue threat: Number of cases in Lahore rise to 195

LAHORE: Dengue is posing a serious threat to Lahore where 40 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of reported cases to 195.

Provincial Health Department said 40 new dengue cases have been reported from different areas across the city bringing the total number of dengue patients in Punjab to 221.

Eleven patients were taken to Jinnah Hospital, while three were admitted to Mayo Hospital.

Five more cases were admitted in Services Hospital and two in Ganga Ram Hospital.

Other patients were admitted in various private hospitals in the city.

It was reported earlier that the Executive District Officer Dr Umer Farooq Baloch said there is no dengue epidemic in the province.

Health, WASA, Solid Waste Management, Horticulture Authority and the people, he said, have to work together to control dengue.

Meanwhile, the number of documented dengue cases continued to rise across the province.

Dr Baloch said that dengue was a public health problem and could be overcome only with people’s cooperation. He said that the Health Department had so far distributed 600,000 pamphlets among the citizens.
