NOWSHERA:

Two policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were killed and another one sustained serious injuries when unidentified people opened firing at a police mobile in Jalozai, Nowshera district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Thursday.

Talking to The Express Tribune a police official said that a police mobile had been deployed at Arando Khwar (nullah) where unidentified miscreants opened fire at the police vehicle. As a result ASI Fayaz Khan and Constable Sajjad were killed on the spot while the driver of the vehicle was critically injured in the attack.

“The attackers managed to escape after committing the crime,” said the official, adding that all the three were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in Peshawar where the ASI and constable were pronounced dead on arrival. The condition of the driver is critical.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar said that three armed men were travelling in a taxi motorcar and when it reached close to the police mobile, they opened firing at police.

“The taxi car was on its way to Chirat from Peshawar. The taxi driver has been arrested and he would hopefully lead us to the attackers,” he added.

A large contingent of police reached the site of the incident led by DPO soon after the attack.
