Celebrated musician and once the ultimate brain behind Coke Studio, Rohail Hyatt has a request for YouTube that cannot be ignored. Turns out legendary singer Arif Lohar’s classic, Jugni, recreated for Coke Studio season 3 by Hyatt, has been claimed by an unidentified party after 11 years of release.
Shared on Hyatt’s YouTube channel, the song is now licensed to ‘Bquate SAC’. Informing his followers about the same, Hyatt tweeted, “With much controversy over copyright infringement recently, here I am with a claim on YouTube.”
With much controversy over copyright infringement recently, here I am with a claim on YouTube. A company called Bquate SAC has claimed Jugni and even after disputing it, they retain their claim.@TeamYouTube Please help claim it back!https://t.co/PfbKZCnsWS#YouTube #Bquate pic.twitter.com/9bKsqqpUf2

He went on to refer to Bquat SAC as a ‘company’ that has claimed rights to his song. “A company called Bquate SAC has claimed Jugni and even after disputing it, they retain their claim. He tagged YouTube to urge the hosting platform to help him reclaim it. “Team YouTube, please help claim it back!”
It is a rarely known fact that often, automated bot accounts flag whatever they can on various content hosting platforms to make money. They do this by disputing licensed content on various channels and sometimes win. In such a case, the original claimant can dispute the newly licensed party on the hosting platform, which in this case, is YouTube. However, it may take up to 30 days to reclaim the property on the popular video streaming website.
As per a user on TechSmith Corporation’s user-support portal, reclaiming rights to any content on YouTube “is a common and frustrating process, to the point that YouTube has an issue with users weaponising copyright claims.”
Nevertheless, here’s hoping Alif Allah, Jugni’s rights are returned to its rightful owner, who in this case, is without a doubt Hyatt.
