Two drug smuggling attempts foiled

Officials say cases registered against suspects under Anti-Narcotics Act

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) foiled drug smuggling attempts in two separate operations and arrested three suspects, including a woman.

They added that a vehicle heading towards Islamabad was intercepted and on the Srinagar Highway and more than 64 kilogrammes of drugs, including 48 kgs of opium and over 16 kgs of hashish were found from the trunk of the vehicle while 850 grams of cannabis was found concealed inside walnuts in the luggage of a passenger named Shahzeb. He was going to Doha via Qatar Airways.

The officials added that the passenger skillfully hid the hashish inside the walnuts.

In the other incident, the officials arrested Tanveer Akhtar, a resident of Gujranwala and Tanveer Ahmed, a resident of Jhelum on Kashmir highway. They were travelling in a car. The officials added that cases have been registered against the accused under the Anti-Narcotics Act. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, police arrested six proclaimed offenders wanted in different cases on Wednesday.

Ganjmandi police arrested four wanted criminals, including Pervez Akhtar, Amir Mehmood, Ishtiaq Mehmood and Ashfaq Mehmood involved in fraud case. The accused were wanted by the police in 2021.

Civil Lines police arrested Ehtesham alias Shamo, wanted in a rape case since 2021.
