Vaccination on doorstep

The fact that the federal and Sindh governments’ door-to-door campaign for coronavirus vaccination has coincided with the WHO’s global warning that people should not lower their guard against the pandemic augurs well for the success of the fight against the dreaded virus in Pakistan. The WHO has regularly been cautioning people about the need for full vaccination and for following the Corona protocols. The Sindh Minister of Health has sounded an identical warning on the eve of the launch of the two-week new campaign during which people above the age of 12 will be vaccinated. The Minister said efforts were being made to immunise the entire population. Over the past 30 days, 51,000 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Sindh, and the latest national positivity ratio has been recorded at slightly below 10%.

In Sindh, nearly 1.3 million persons have received the first dose and close to six million the second dose. Around 37% population of the province is fully vaccinated. During the at-home vaccination drive people will also be given booster vaccines to further fortify them against the disease. Like during the previous campaigns, the vaccines, including the booster dose, will be administered for free. The vaccination teams will include trained experts to handle cases of adverse reaction of the jabs. The government is trying to make sure to administer the vaccine to the whole population of the country with all the required precautions pertaining to vaccination.

The Sindh government has mobilised social workers to make the campaign more effective and to get better results. They will help the administration of jabs in various ways. Among other things, they will try to convince people to get the vaccine stressing that the only way to get rid of the pandemic is to fully vaccinate the whole population. This is very significant in view of the continuous emergence of different variants of the virus, and their rapid transmission to all corners of the world. It is necessary to get the corona jab to beat the dreaded pandemic.
