US provides 4.7m Covid vaccine doses

ISLAMABAD:

The number of active Covid cases stayed above 100,000 for the third consecutive day, as 7,048 more people tested positive during the past 24 hours, according to the daily update of the pandemic issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Monday.


The data comes as the United States provided 4.7 million additional doses of Pfizer vaccine to Pakistan to boost the country’s campaign for administering the anti-Covid booster shot across the country to fight the pandemic.


The latest consignment comes as the single day tally of new Covid cases topped 7,000 once again, while 21 patients breathed their last during the past 24 hours, according to the official data announced by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Monday.


With the latest consignment of 4.7 million doses, the total number of vaccines provided by the United States to Pakistan reached 47.4 million. In addition the United States has so far provided about $70 million in aid to Pakistan as part of a joint venture against the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the NCOC said that the national positivity ratio was 11.54% during the past 24 hours, with 7,048 new cases. The national caseload rose to 1.425 million. With 21 deaths on Sunday, the overall death toll from the disease since its outbreak in February 2020 rose to 29,269.


According to the forum, 2,987 Covid patients fully recovered during the past 24 hours, raising the number of total recoveries to 1.291 million.
