KARACHI:

Shopkeepers of Light House Market (Lunda Bazar) attacked the staff District Municipal Corporation (DMC) South with iron pipes during an operation against encroachment.

Officials of the DMC South Anti-Encroachment Department accused Light House Market Association President Hakeem Shah of instigating the shopkeepers to attack.

The shopkeepers subjected the anti-encroachment staff to severe torture that left Sadaqat and Ibrahim Yameen in critical condition with head injuries.

They were rushed to Dr. Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital and given immediate medical attention.

The FIR of the incident has been registered in Risala police station. It is to be noted that the staff of south municipality was engaged in an operation against encroachment and was loading carts, tables, and other seized goods on the trucks when the shopkeepers attacked them.

Enraged shopkeepers smashed the windscreens, headlights and windows of the government trucks.

Meanwhile, DMC South Administrator Dr Afshan Rabab Syed and Municipal Commissioner Akhtar Ali Sheikh announced certificates of appreciation to the employees involved in the operation against encroachments,She directed the Director Anti-Encroachment to ensure that the lives of employees remain safe.
