In a bid to mobilise the local crowd, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to hold rallies in Punjab ahead of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) march, a senior party leader has said.
Talking to The Express Tribune on the condition of anonymity, the PML-N leader said that while the opposition is unlikely to oust the government, these measures will keep the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on fridges, while helping them consolidate support ahead of local bodies elections in the province.
He said that the ruling party’s lawmakers are already quite concerned about their political future as they anticipate PML-N’s return, at least in Punjab.
He also said that with the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) march in February and theirs in March, the government would be under pressure. It would “forget about all state affairs”, and would focus on neutralising the threat posed by the opposition instead, he added.

Someone has to become the spokesperson of the people and hold activities to showcase their anger towards the government, he further said.
The senior party leader said that prior to the march, PML-N will hold to to three rallies in Punjab, the date and venue of which would be announced later.
Responding to a question about Nawaz Sharif’s return, he said that to the best of his knowledge, there is nothing in considering regarding his return as yet.
To a question about plans for any sit-in in Islamabad, the PML-N leader said that details regarding the PDM’s march is being kept a secret to ensure that the government is not given a chance to prepare for it in advance.
