GUJRANWALA:

The police have recovered the vehicle owned by a Saudi-bound family that went missing in Punjab's Sarai Alamgir town last month.

The five-member family included two boys -- 14 and six years old -- two daughters -- 13 and nine years old -- and their mother. They had returned from Saudi Arabia a few weeks before their alleged abduction, and their mysterious disappearance occurred a day before their returning flight.

The mother, a resident of Sarai Alamgir's remote area of Farooq Town, reportedly went shopping along with her children but mysteriously disappeared on her way home, police said, suspecting abduction.

As investigation inched forward, police made a breakthrough on Monday by recovering their car that was found in a parking spot of an apartment in a private housing society. The number plate of the car was covered, said police, adding that they will use CCTV cameras to find the missing family.

About the apartment, the police said it was too early to comment on whether or not the family was taken to the apartment.

At the complaint of the husband, the police had registered a case against a suspected kidnapper and further investigation was underway.
