Killer of wife, three kids gets death penalty on four counts

ATC also imposes fine of Rs0.1m on accused; acquits two co-accused on benefit of doubt

A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) has sentenced a ruthless suspect to death four times after he was found guilty of killing his wife and three children.

The Karachi-based special ATC convicted Manan alias Bengali, accused of killing his wife and three children, and sentenced him to death four times.

A fine of Rs100,000 has also been imposed on the accused. The court, however, acquitted two co-accused Asif and Yusuf by giving them the benefit of doubt. Public Prosecutor Ghulam Abbas had argued that accused Manan Bengali had killed his wife and three minor children in 2017.

It was victim Rabia's second marriage with the accused. A case was registered against the accused at Iqbal Market police station on the complaint of the victim's father.

Remand extended

Meanwhile, the South Judicial Magistrate has extended the remand by five days of the main accused in the murder case of a businessman - Veer Bhan - who was killed during a robbery.

The Magistrate directed the investigation officer to submit a progress report. A case of murder of a Hindu businessman during a robbery was heard before the court of South Judicial Magistrate in Karachi City Court.

Upon completion of physical remand, the police produced the main accused in court. The court further extended the physical remand of the accused for five days.

The court sought a progress report from the IO at the next hearing. According to police, the accused had killed 35-year-old Veer Bhan while robbing him of Rs7.3 million.

The arrested suspect remained inside the bank along with his accomplices while Veer Bhan was withdrawing money. Money snatched in the incident was also recovered from the possession of the accused. South police are conducting raids to nab other accomplices of the accused. The same group is also involved in committing a robbery outside a bank in Gizri area.
