KARACHI:

Various areas of Gulshan-e-Iqbal are submerged in sewage water, due to which a foul stench has engulfed the area.

The overflowing gutters have damaged the roads affecting the flow of traffic in the densely populated town of the city.

Locals told The Express Tribune during a survey that sewage and piles of garbage have made their lives miserable.

The sewerage lines in blocks 13D, 13D/1, 13D/2 and 13D/3 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal are choked for over a month, area residents said. Sewage water has accumulated in front of houses in Block 13/D of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, due to which movement of citizens is severely affected.

Similarly, a sewerage line has been leaking on the main road of block 13D/1 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal for more than a month, but because it was not repaired, sewage water is accumulating on the roads. As a result, the area's main road from City Lawn to Madina Masjid is badly affected. The flow of traffic is severely affected here. While on the main road of block 13D/2 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, sewage water has accumulated in various places. There are piles of garbage along with sewage water in the affected areas.

Garbage in sewage water has further aggravated the situation. Residents of the affected area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal say that complaints have been sent to the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board officials and East District Municipal Corporation several times, but their problems have not been resolved for over a month. They said the road constructed from Rs.20 million by former Karachi mayor Wasim Akhtar has been damaged due to sewage water.

Residents of the area have appealed to the Sindh government to solve the immediate sewerage and sanitation problems in the affected areas.
