Sindh imposes new Covid restrictions in Omicron hotspots

50% attendance will be maintained for education institutions having children under the age of 12 in Karachi, Hyderabad

KARACHI:

The Sindh government on Wednesday announced new restrictions for Karachi and Hyderabad — the cities with over 10 per cent Covid-19 positivity ratio —as the country battles the fifth wave of the coronavirus fuelled by the highly-transmissible Omicron variant.

According to a statement issued by the Sindh home department, a complete ban on indoor weddings has been imposed, while outdoors weddings have been restricted to 300 fully vaccinated individuals.

A ban on all types of indoor gatherings, including dine-in, has also been imposed, whereas outdoor dining and takeaway have been allowed.

Education activities have also been limited in cities where the Covid-19 positivity rate was more than 10 per cent.

For Karachi and Hyderabad, 50 per cent attendance will be maintained for education institutions having children under the age of 12. However, 100 per cent attendance for education institutions having students over the age of 12 but vaccination has been declared mandatory for such students.

The notification stated that the classes would be held as per routine in other cities of the province with strict implementation of Covid-19 protocols.

Indoor gyms will be allowed to operate on 50 per cent capacity and cinemas, shrines, and parks will also be subject to 50 per cent occupancy.

The notification placed a ban on all types of contact sports whereas it also stated that market and business activities will continue without time restriction.

Ambreen | 2 years ago | Reply Why sind govt and ncoc is not allowing educational institutions to make hybrid system ie online and oncampus as many students want to take online classes and they dont want the risk of being exposed to the virus.
