Skills development policy on the cards

It will encourage students from poor families to learn technical skills

The first skills policy of Punjab will be introduced soon and it will help the students belonging to poor families in getting admission in technical institutions and learning skills, said Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Mian Aslam Iqbal.

Chairing the fourth meeting of Punjab Skills Development Authority (PSDA) on Tuesday, Iqbal underlined that the government was focusing on creation of skilled manpower as per the requirements of the industries. He was of the view that courses would be prepared in line with modern requirements and with proper consultation of the stakeholders.

“PSDA plays the role of a facilitator along with acting as a regulator,” he remarked.

During the meeting, the Board of Punjab approved the proposed draft amendment to the PSDA Act 2019 and PSDA Rules and Regulations 2021.

Moreover, it approved regulations to give financial power to the PSDA for implementation of development schemes, besides approving the draft PSDA (Engagement of Legal Advisers/ Counsel Regulations 2021). The proposal of building layout plans of existing government institutes was also reviewed.

Regarding registration of technical institutes, PSDA Director General Moazzam Iqbal Sipra revealed that around 1,396 applications had been received for online registration.
