Mystery shrouds over the death of a head constable who died after two bullets hit his stomach in a washroom of a government college, his duty point in Iqbal Town.

Head Constable Bashir Ahmad had carried his weapon, a submachine gun, with him to the washroom. As he was inside, gunshots were heard.

Students and college staff rushed towards the spot and found the victim in a pool of blood. He was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment but could not survive, said SP Iqbal Town.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Fayyaz Ahmad Dev has taken the notice of the incident and asked field officers to investigate the matter from different angles.

Police were taking into account the matter keeping in different angles; suicide, accidental fire or homicide.

An official told The Express Tribune that the possibility of homicide does not have much substance and grounds to believe.

No sound circumstantial evidence based lead was found such as a suspicious person entering or leaving the premises, motives, modus operandi - shooting the victim on government duty and washroom of an educational institute is not easy to buy for a homicide case of a head constable.

Police said the victim had received two bullet injuries in his stomach while in the majority of the homicide cases; there is one bullet injury to vital organs such as the head or chest.

There are very rare cases of suicide by two bullets.

Police said the third possibility of death could be due to accidental fire.

The victim was carrying a submachine gun. It is an automatic rifle that fires many rounds on pressing the trigger. Dev has sought a report of the incident from SP Iqbal Town.
