Earthquake tremors felt in different parts of Pakistan

Earthquake was measured at 5.6-magnitude on the Richter scale, according to National Seismological Centre

ISLAMABAD:

Strong earthquake tremors were felt across Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Friday night, officials said.

According to the National Seismological Centre, the earthquake was measured at 5.6-magnitude on the Richter scale whereas the epicentre of the quake was near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border at a depth of 100 kilometres.

However, there were no immediate reports of damage so far.

Earlier this month, strong earthquake tremors hit various parts of K-P including provincial capital Peshawar. Tremors were also felt in Islamabad, Met Office said.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the epicentre of the quake was Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, at a depth of 180km and a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale.

Tremors were felt in several district of K-P including Swat, Mingora, Chitral, Buner, Swabi and their outskirts.

The tremors were also felt in parts of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and areas along the Line of Control (LoC), according to Indian media.

In December, earthquake tremors, measuring 4.1 on the Richter Scale and at a depth of 15km, were felt in different parts of Karachi.

According to the Pakistan’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre, it originated 15km south of DHA, Karachi.

The tremors were felt in different areas of the port city including North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Baldia, Quaidabad, Scheme 33, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and others.
