Ali Fazal shared a rare clip from late actor Irrfan Khan’s exemplary archive to explain why more artists needed to take notes from his attention to detail. Fazal laid emphasis on Khan’s Urdu pronunciation, to highlight how it is actually done.

Originally shared by a Twitter user, the clip showed Irrfan from the TV series Bharat Ek Khoj. Retweeting the same, Fazal expressed how Irrfan was a perfectionist in whatever he did, as evident from the way he delivers his dialogues in the scene.

The Mirzapur star wrote, “As you can see, Irrfan sahab did not stray from his Urdu pronunciation even once. He didn’t lose sight of his dedication in the coming years either. Yet, it’s been ages since I came across or got to do such a scene. But it’s my promise, our golden years will return in all aspects. It has begun, have patience.”

In the clip, Irrfan can be seen discussing the importance of unity as opposed to the need for separate states based on religious divides. He talks about the several misunderstandings that had been sowed between Muslims and Hindus and how only the British would benefit from them. His character also talks about how religion had been replaced by communalism at that point in time.

Bharat Ek Khoj was based on the book The Discovery of India by Jawaharlal Nehru and was directed, written and produced by Shyam Benegal. It revolved around India's 5,000-year history to independence. The show starred Om Puri, Roshan Seth, Tom Alter and Sadashiv Amrapurkar in prominent roles.

Irrfan died of a neuroendocrine tumour in April 2020. He is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and sons, Babil and Ayan.
