Asad says Pakistan needs an empowered Karachi

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Saturday said that the local bodies system in Sindh has collapsed as the provincial government has absorbed all powers.

Addressing an event held by Ummah Charity International, the federal minister said that the country needed an empowered Karachi.

He also said that the Green Line project would be fully operational from January 10.

Asad said that Pakistan was ranked among countries where people help each other. He added that the federal government too has initiated a number of programmes to help people, such as the Ehsaas programme, whereby people were provided financial assistance.

He also said that Rs66 billion were distributed among the people of Sindh during the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking about government’s uplift initiatives, he said that the Kamyab Jawan Programme was moving forward successfully, and the Kamyab Pakistan Programme was also being launched.

“Imran Khan is serving the nation with honesty,” he added.

Asad also said that the revenue generated by the federal government was spent on defence and federal institutions, and the remaining amount was transferred to the provinces.

He added that Karachi’s condition would be better if some of this amount was spent on it. APP
