KARACHI:

A group of drug addicts allegedly slit the throat of their partner to snatch some money they had seen in his pocket.

According to police, Mehmood Ahmed, 30, was injured in a scuffle near Power House, Al-Noor Society in Block-19 of Federal B Area within the limits of Samanabad police station. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. The victim's brother, Mansoor Ahmed, told The Express Tribune that his brother is married and the father of a 10-year-old son. He used to work as a driver of route W-11 minibus where someone introduced him to heroin, and he got hooked.

Heroin addiction cost him his job and Mehmood finally took to streets begging and scavenging for heroin.

The other day, Ahmed was sitting on a footpath with other addicts taking heroin when his partners tried to snatch money from him. At this, he got up, walked away, and sat down on the other sidewalk. Meanwhile, Rashid, Nisar, Danial, and Gutto grabbed him, slit his throat with a cutter blade, snatched his cash, and fled.

The victim's brother said he has informed the police about the names and identities of the suspects, however, no arrests have been made so far. The condition of the injured is said to be critical.
