Uzair Baloch, MQM’s Sheru acquitted in Rangers officials murder case

Court says prosecution failed to prove its allegations

The alleged gangland don, Uzair Jan Baloch, indicted in over 20 cases of murder, kidnapping, extortion, and arson, got carte blanche in yet another case.

A special anti-terrorism court on Tuesday acquitted gang-war leader Uzair Jan Baloch and MQM's Sheikh Sher Muhammad alias Sheru in the murder case of two officials of Sindh Rangers.

“The prosecution failed to prove charges against the suspects,” ruled the Special ATC No 16 judge at the Karachi Central Jail while announcing ruling in the case of murder of two Rangers personnel who were kidnapped, tortured, and killed in 2013.

The court ruled that the suspects should be acquitted if there was no other case against them.

Defendants’ counsel Abid Zaman Advocate had argued that any solid evidence could not be presented against the suspects, therefore they should be acquitted.

According to police, the suspects had kidnapped, tortured and killed two Rangers personnel Ijaz and Nasir and dumped their mutilated bodies in Lyari’s Mewa Shah Graveyard.

A case of double murder was registered against the suspects in Pak Colony police station in 2013. Baloch's counsel Abid Zaman told The Express Tribune that his client had 23 cases pending in the special anti-terrorism courts, and he has been honorably exonerated in six.

Advocate Zaman said that the statement of the magistrate and the head of JIT was also recorded in this case but the prosecution could not present any concrete evidence.
