The Director-General of the Punjab Emergency Service Department (PESD), Dr Rizwan Naseer, said that Rescue 1122 rescued 1,299,580 emergency victims responding to over 1,262,333 emergencies during the year 2021.
He said that there were 19.74% (253,938) emergencies, which was an increase in the number of emergencies as compared to the year 2020. He further reviewed the emergency data in which he found an increase of 16.88% in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs), 33.44% in fire cases, 23.97% in medical, 19.30% in fall from height, 9.71% in crimerelated emergencies, 10.55% in delivery cases, 5.63% in explosions and 11.15% miscellaneous emergencies as compared to the year 2020.
The data revealed that four categories of emergencies, building collapse, occupational injuries, electric shock and drowning, were seen to have decreased in 2021 as compared to the year 2020. This has been revealed during the Annual Review of Emergency Data 2021 held at the Rescue Headquarters, Thoker Niaz Baig, Lahore. All heads of wings and senior officers from Rescue Headquarters and Academy attended the review.
Punjab Safe Cities Authority 15 Emergency Helpline received 43,855,280 calls, out of which 27,587,925 calls were considered to be hoax/irrelevant and 4,325,938 calls with genuine concerns, and the dispatch control centre generated cases for further action.
