Federal govt alone procured vaccines worth almost Rs250 billion, says Premier Imran Khan

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government has achieved its target of fully vaccinating 70 million people across the country.

"We have completed our target of fully vaccinating 7 crore of our people by end of 2021," the premier wrote on his official Twitter handle on Friday.

He said that the federal government alone procured vaccines worth almost Rs250 billion and provided free vaccines to citizens in all the provinces to achieve the target.

Earlier today, NCOC Chairman Asad Umar had also announced the development on his Twitter handle.

He appreciated the NCOC team and the health teams from the central government and provinces for their hardworking efforts to achieve the tough goal.

Umar said that the central government procured vaccines and provided them free of cost to all citizens, adding that 46 per cent of the country's total eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

To make this massive vaccination drive possible, the Federal Government has procured vaccines worth nearly Rs. 250 Billion. 100% of vaccine procurement done by the federal government, which has provided free vaccines to all citizens regardless of which province they live in.

Amongst the Federating units Islamabad leads with 77 % fully vaccinated. Punjab is at 51 %, GB 46 %, AJK 45 %, balochistan 42 %, KP 41%, and sind at 37 %. Of the total eligible population 46 % is fully vaccinated and 63 % has recieved atleast one dose.

In early February, Pakistan kicked off its nationwide Covid-19 vaccination campaign after receiving a batch of China-donated vaccines.

Pakistan's overall tally of the infected people reached 1,295,376 across the country on Thursday, including 1,256,337 recoveries and 28,927 deaths, according to the NCOC.
