SIALKOT:

The enthusiasm and keenness shown by Pakistani business leaders and entrepreneurs to explore new avenues are unmatched, remarked Alibaba Head of Asia-Pacific Stephen Kuo.

Speaking at a seller summit titled “Unlock Business Growth Code” on Thursday, he noted that there was a lot of untapped potential for growth of e-commerce in Pakistan.

“We wish to help tap this potential for sustainable growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and, in turn, the national economy,” he highlighted.

Kuo pointed out that the e-commerce giant would extend all-out support to the local sellers by helping them to start a business online, set up stores, upload products on websites and in logistics matters.

He was of the view that the collaborative arrangement would create an unprecedented shared value and facilitate mutual growth in the long run.

Speaking on the occasion, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Shabina Gillani thanked Alibaba for its efforts to unlock new avenues for the local businesses to enhance sales and profitability.

“The world is changing fast through digitisation, therefore, traditional businesses should also change for good,” she emphasised. “E-commerce is the future and it is beneficial to the small and medium businesses as it can fetch excellent revenues with little effort.”

She hoped that through Alibaba’s global platform, the local businesses could gain access to markets all over the world and contribute effectively to the national economy.

The company is actively working to tap Pakistan’s unexplored e-commerce potential and has taken multiple initiatives in the recent past.

According to estimates, Pakistan is expected to witness annual growth of 28% in the e-commerce segment over the next three years and become one of the largest exporters of online goods.

Officials voiced hope that the meeting would help Alibaba to reach out to the local micro, small and medium-scale businesses, which could enhance their operations by selling through Alibaba’s platform.
