MIRANSHAH:

Yet another police constable has been gunned down in what appears to be a targeted attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Wednesday.

Police told The Express Tribune that Constable Saifullah was targeted in broad daylight in the crowded Mir Ali bazaar by unidentified bike riders who managed to escape after committing the crime.

“Constable Saifullah was present in the market where two bike riders opened fire at him, killing him on the spot,” said a police official, adding that he was rushed to the nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A large number of policemen reached the spot and cordoned off the entire locality but the attackers had managed to escape from the crime scene.

“An FIR has been registered against the unidentified attackers and police opened investigation in the case,” he said.

It is worth noting here that on Tuesday one man was killed and two sustained serious injuries in a blast in the same Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan.

The incident took place in Mama Khel locality of Mir Ali as miscreants had planted an IED near a tube well which went off with a big bang, killing one man and injuring two others. The injured were rushed to the hospital in Bannu where their condition is stated to be critical.

Despite the recent merger North Waziristan is one of the most volatile tribal districts where dozens are killed over land disputes. Large scale armed clashes between entire clans are also not uncommon in which heavy machine guns, RPG-7 and even mortar shells are used openly. Such conflicts often claim precious lives.

Attacks at security forces and police are also gaining momentum including ambushes, roadside attacks and targeted attacks.

Local residents blame that these things are happening despite the presence of dozens of check posts in the area.

On the other hand Inspector Ahmad Gul of Peshawar police who had been injured in firing by miscreants in Faqirabad area of Peshawar and had been in the hospital for a week succumbed to his injuries at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).

He was on his way home in his motorcar when bike riders attacked him.
